Talent Development & Ireland Youth Team 

The Mountaineering Ireland Talent Development Pathway provides structure and opportunity for young climbers who want to develop their climbing performance levels in order to compete at national and international competitions.

Ireland Youth Team Selection Framework 2024 

'Request to Compete' form

To become a member of the IYT, athletes must be eligible to apply as per the IYT selection framework. They must fill in the ‘Request to compete’ form listing their competition results and accomplishments. The from must be sent to: michael@mountaineering.ie by 8pm, Friday 1st December 2023.

Ireland Youth Squad

The Ireland Youth Squad was founded in 2022 under Mountaineering Ireland. It's aim is to develop athletes for potential selection for the Irish Youth / Senior Team and for entry into IFSC and IFSC-Europe competitions. The Ireland Youth Squad is thus focused on high performance competition climbing.


Eligibility

The Ireland Youth Squad is based on ability level and motivation, and is for youth who want to grow as competitive climbers and be part of a tight-knit training group.

Membership of The 2024 Ireland Youth Squad

For 2024: Youth D, C and B athletes are eligible for selection, with approximately 18 athletes being selected.

Mountaineering Ireland will contact those who are eligible for selection and offer them places according to the selection criteria.

Applications for the Squad cannot be accepted.

Irish Youth Squad Training Sessions 

The Irish Youth Squad is a motivated group of performance-based youth athletes, attendance at all sessions is expected, and all athletes are asked to participate fully in all training sessions.
