Access Updates
Access to the hills is no longer permitted by the route described for Knocknadobar in the first edition of Irish Peaks..
Walkers may access the mountains via the stile at V 534 874, however due to the narrow road network in the Kells area, it is advisable to park in the small car park at the beach in Kells village and walk along the road from there.
Alternatively, Knocknadobar may be ascended by the Pilgrim Path on the south-western side, starting from the small car park at V 481 829. An updated description and map for the Knocknadobar route was included in the second edition.

The ‘Possible Alternatives’ note refers to a horseshoe from the Black Valley, please note that currently there is an access issue affecting this route. The access issue affects a large part of the Black Valley including the townlands of Bunbinnia, Cockow and Eskwacruttia.
The second edition of Irish Peaks includes a revised route for Birreencorragh in Mayo, due to changes within the forestry. Download the updated description here.
The Zig-zags route in Glenmalure, Co. Wicklow, the descent route described in Irish Peaks, remains closed following an assault in March 2023 on landowner Pat Dunne by a dog walker. See here for advice on route options for Lugnaquilla
The descent route for the Croagh Patrick route is via Ben Goram to a minor road at Kilsallagh. Due to farm access being obstructed by parked vehicles people are asked not to use this route and instead descend by the Pilgrim route.
The parking area in the first and second editions of Irish Peaks has been fenced off by landowners following irresponsible parking. People are asked not to park in Glencorbet and to instead to park at the Lettershanbally forest entrance - https://maps.app.goo.gl/XhwAaFmQ8KyoRXdMA
