Title:  Get Climbing Programme for Youths Launched
Date:  17/07/2017

Mountaineering Ireland is pleased to announce a new initiative to help promote indoor climbing to young people. The Get Climbing Programme is funded by Dormant Accounts through Sport Ireland as part of the National Physical Activity Plan’s measures for disadvantaged communities. It aims to introduce young people to climbing and to equip them with the skills and knowledge to be able to climb independently at their local wall. As well as developing climbing skills, it is hoped that this project will enable participants to become part of the climbing community in the wider sense.

Project Coordinator, Gráinne O’Brien is looking forward to the challenge:

"This funding provides a great opportunity to introduce young people to the sport of climbing who may otherwise have found it difficult to access their local climbing walls. We have excellent climbing wall facilities throughout the country and through this project we hope to reach out to new climbers and foster a lifelong enthusiasm for the sport."

Participants in the project will complete an eight week course where they will learn the basics of climbing so that they can climb independently and with confidence. Currently there are participants accessing the programme through Awesome Walls, Finglas and The Dublin Climbing Centre, Tallaght. For more information, contact or on 087 7555908.
