Position Overview

Mountaineering Ireland invites applications for this exciting full-time role on a fixed term-contract. Mountaineering Ireland is the representative body for walkers and climbers in Ireland. It is recognised as the National Governing Body for mountaineering, hillwalking, rambling and climbing by both Sports Ireland and Sport Northern Ireland.

Mountaineering Ireland works in collaboration with several key stakeholders to promote participation and growth of its activities throughout the island of Ireland. One of the successful initiatives it supports is the, “Get Ireland Walking”, initiative, now with a national remit is expanding its staffing resources and wishes to recruit a full-time, Communications and Administration Officer to work in and through its head office in Sports HQ on the National Sports Campus Blanchardstown.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will; support the design and implementation of a communications strategy in collaboration with Get Ireland Walking key partners a to promote and advocate for, all aspects of walking and programmes connected to the Get Ireland Walking initiative and its current Strategy and Action Plan 2017-2020. In addition, the successful candidate will support office administration responsibilities for Get Ireland Walking, the team and its Programme Manager. This will include the website, email accounts, and build on the initiatives networking capacity to engage all agencies interested in promoting walking, nationally and internationally. In addition, the successful candidate will have the responsibility of managing all head office related tasks and communicate effectively the sharing and streamlining of information and the organisations brand.

Post:               Communications & Administration Officer


Duration:        A full-time, funding specific contract will be offered to the successful applicant.


Hours of Work:Full-time post of 39 hours per week, in a variable working hours’ arrangement involving some evening and weekend work.


Annual Leave:            21 working days per annum (dependent on start date this will be calculated on a pro-rata basis).


Salary:            €28,000 - €31,000 (negotiable) salary per annum depending on experience.


Reporting to:The person appointed will report directly to the Get Ireland Walking Programme Manager.


Location:           The person appointed will have office facilities at the Mountaineering Ireland’s Office, Irish Sport HQ, National Sports Campus, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 and will on occasion be required to attend off-site meetings and events throughout the island of Ireland.

Interviews:     Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held at the Mountaineering Ireland Office,  Sports HQ, National Sports Campus, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 on Tuesday 15th October 2019. The successful candidate will participate in a Garda Vetting Process which will be carried out by Mountaineering Ireland before commencing employment.
