Mountaineering Ireland seeks better coordination of outdoor recreation

Mountaineering Ireland has started the year by writing to Minister Michael Ring TD calling on the Minister to complete the long-promised indemnity arrangement for Mountain Access Areas, but more importantly to organise and invest in the management of recreation in Ireland’s upland areas.

Better co-ordination of Ireland’s growing outdoor recreation sector and sustained funding are needed, to accommodate in a long-term sustainable way the growing numbers of people who look to enjoy Ireland’s wonderful outdoors. In doing so there is need to address the concerns of landowners and to protect the natural environment that outdoor recreation activity depends upon.

Mountaineering Ireland has urged Minister Ring to move forward with the creation of a new outdoor recreation advisory body to replace Comhairle na Tuaithe, as proposed by the Minister in May 2018.
