Title:  Autumn Gathering Notice

Thank you for to those who have registered for this year’s Autumn Gathering.


Mountaineering Ireland would like to confirm that the Autumn Gathering will go ahead this weekend in Clonbur, Co. Galway as planned. In relation to the current weather forecast/warning, we are closely monitoring the weather with Met Eireann and will alter/change walks as necessary. Mountaineering Ireland, would like to advise all members attending to be cautious while travelling to and from the event and to check the Met Eireann for weather updates before setting out on your journey to ensure it is safe to do so.


Registration will commence from 18:00 onwards this Friday at the Fairhill House Hotel, to allow ample time for people to attend the panel discussion which commences at 19:30 sharp so please be in time to confirm registration and collect your goodie bag. Members are welcome to attend an informal local walk on the Friday which will be starting from the Fairhill House Hotel at 2pm. The official opening commences at 7:30pm on Friday evening.  The panel discussion will be focused on the role that outdoor recreation can play in the future sustainability of rural areas. Local TDs, Junior Minister Seán Kyne and Eamon O Cuiv have agreed to participate, along with a local hillfarmer, Trish Walsh (Petersburg OETC & Clonbur Community Council) and a Mountaineering Ireland representative. Journalist Lorna Siggins will chair the discussions, all are welcome and we encourage all participants registered to attend.


There are still some walks available for the Saturday activities so you can let anyone else that is interested know that online bookings will be open until Friday.  As always there will be workshops running on the Sunday morning. The Club Development Workshop will be running from the Fairhill House hotel starting at 10pm and is open to all club members with no restriction on number. I will be looking at a variety of current topics which affect all clubs. Club Development Workshop is an opportunity to bring specific questions to the forum. The workshop will offer advice on GDPR, Insurance, club renewals, encouraging new members . If there is a particular area you would like to discuss or get information on please email me beforehand so we can prepare the necessary material.


Those of you who have booked on to the Environmental Workshop on the Sunday, this workshop will be going from Petersburg Outdoor Recreation Centre, can you please be there at the slightly earlier time of 9:30. There are limited spaces available so if you haven’t booked on yet and would like to please email me and I will put your name down if there is space.


Jane  Carney our Training Officer will be in touch with those who have registered to do the training workshop on the Sunday which will be running from Petersburg Outdoor Recreation Centre as she would also like to start earlier to get the most out of the workshop.
