Title:  Hillwalking Working Group Update
Date:  22/06/2018

Mountaineering Ireland’s Hillwalking Working Group held its first meeting at Irish Sport HQ in Dublin last night to start scoping out the group’s work to develop Terms of Reference for a Mountaineering Ireland Hillwalking Committee and to develop an initial work plan for the committee.

Following a strong response to a recent call for expressions of interest, a working group of 11 members was formed, made up of people from different geographic areas, and bringing a variety of backgrounds in hillwalking. The group is made up of: Paul Cherry (absent from photo as he was abroad for work); Trish Kane (Mountaineering Ireland Board Member); Helen Lawless (Mountaineering Ireland’s Hillwalking, Access & Conservation Officer; Aine McGirl; Gráinne McLoughlin (Mountaineering Ireland Board and chairperson); Russell Mills; Declan Murphy; Christian Schafalitzky; William Smith; Margaret Tees (absent from photo as she had to leave slightly early to get a bus back to Belfast); Ruth Whelan (Mountaineering Ireland’s Membership Development Officer).

The group will meet again in July and is aiming to deliver the report of its work to the Board of Mountaineering Ireland before the end of November 2018.
