Title:  Note regarding Elections to the Board of Mountaineering Ireland
Date:  07/03/2018

Ten positions on the Board are due to be filled by Election at the AGM on 24th March 2018. These are the President, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer and 7 ordinary members.

The Board has tabled a Motion proposing that the positions of Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer be removed from the Constitution and that the number of ordinary members be increased from 7 to 9.

If this Motion is adopted at the AGM, the new rule will apply to the Elections which will be held shortly afterwards. As the positions of Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer will no longer exist, the two persons who have been nominated for these positions will be seeking election as ordinary members of the Board.

The Board has also tabled a Motion proposing new rules relating to the terms of office of board members, in particular that no person may serve on the Board for any period in excess of 12 years and that the term of office of members will be increased from 2 to 3 years. If this Motion is adopted at the AGM, the new rules will apply to persons elected at the Board shortly afterwards.
