AGM 2019 Update

Following an extremely positive AGM held at the National Sport Campus, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 on Saturday 30th March 2019, the following summary points are listed:

-          On behalf on the Board, the President conferred Honorary Membership on Patrick O’Sullivan for his many years of dedicated service as a Mountaineering Ireland volunteer, as a former Board Member and former Treasurer, and particularly in his current role as Editor of the Irish Mountain Log since 2004.

-          The members of the Hillwalking Working Group were thanked by the President for their excellent work in 2018. The group completed its work in December, and arising from that we now have a new Hillwalking Committee in place which held its first meeting last month.

-          The President also acknowledged the first full year's service of the all-island Mountain Training Board Ireland (MTBI) and praised them for their commitment.

-          Both of these committees are set up as a sub-committee of Mountaineering Ireland.

-          2018 also saw Mountaineering Ireland's overall membership numbers increase to 13,180 (the first time to go over 13,000 members).

-          In July, the Board of Mountaineering Ireland launched Mountaineering Ireland's new Strategic Plan for 2018 - 2021.

-          Regarding the proposed motion to the 2019 AGM by the Board of Mountaineering Ireland to increase Club Membership fees to €35.00, this motion was carried by a substantial majority.

The fee increase, which comes into effect on the 1st November 2019 (for the 2019/2020 membership year), was necessary to maintain and increase the work and reach that Mountaineering Ireland is doing on behalf of its members, in a sustainable manner.

We will provide further information over the next couple of months to show the difference these increased resources will make in our work to represent members’ interests and to develop hillwalking and climbing in Ireland.
