Kanturk Hillwalkers & Mt. Climbers - Cork Walking Week Trip Around Clara

Date: 20/05/2018

Kanturk Hillwalkers & Mountain Climbers are hosting a walk as part of Cork Walking Week which is being organised by Cork Sports Partnership which is part of Cork County Council in a bid to promote walking or more specifically, Hillwalking so that the club may gain some new members and raise a bit of money for the Club so that to finance members to do the Mt. Skills 2 Course which at the moment is the highest thing on the agenda.

The route chosen is the Claragh Loop near Millstreet in Co. Cork. Doing Clara is a popular enough walk & not that high but it will continue out into the country completing the full loop which most people do not know about or are not brave enough to do it on their own. It is a route the club & members often do and know it well so they will be giving that chance to others and hope to gain a few new members. The walk in question will take about 3.5hrs but the first 45 to 55 mins is the hardest part in getting to the cross, after that it is a hike around the countryside. The first part of the walk uses a forest path which is stiff test & then for beginners comes a tough bit climbing Clara Mt. which is a climb  used as a gauge to new members joining as if they can’t do this part reasonably easy there is no point joining as this would be considered an easy climb compared to where they normally go in length & height.

For Safety & also to make a good impression the club have contacted all club members by the clubs text system & WhatsApp messages to attend the day with a good response as members realise it’s for the clubs future upgrading. The club will have their Club Walkie Talkies and a GPS unit on the day plus all the tracks are on the View Ranger App as well.

So here's to a good day.
