Fair Head Climbing Meet 2018

Date: 1-3/06/2018
Venue: Fair Head
The Fair Head Climbing Meet will take place over the weekend 1st - 3rd June 2018. It will follow the usual format of camping at Sean Mcbrides farm - £5 per person per night, a guest speaker on the Saturday night and lots of climbing and laughs during what will hopefully be a good weekend of weather!

This year’s guest speaker will be the North Wales based climber Calum Muskett. He will be talking about his progression from the crags of North Wales to the big rock and ice faces of the Alps, Yosemite and Patagonia, as well as his motivation for climbing them. Some of his stories he will tell will be about climbing Paciencia on the Eiger, new routing in Patagonia, as well as an assortment of shorter tales about successes and failures.

This year’s Fair Head Meet is organised by Paul Swail and the Dal Riada Climbing Club with support from Rab and Mountaineering Ireland.

Here's some great advice from Calvin Torrans ahead of the meet:
  • This is a Trad meet at a serious cliff and you are entirely responsible for your own safety.
  • If you come across an ab rope and choose to use it, you do so at your own risk.
  • Be aware that stone-fall does happen - don't hang around unnecessarily under routes.
  • The section of cliff between the Ballycastle Descent Gully and the Prow is dirty and loose - the only recommended routes at the moment are Odyssey and Sodbuster.
  • There are a lot of brilliant routes all along the cliff but also some that are dirty/loose and haven't been climbed in decades - ask for recommendations. Dal Riada club members and other Fair Head regulars will be around all weekend and happy to advise.
  • Climbing is an activity with a danger of personal injury and death. If you choose to climb you should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for your own actions and involvement.
