Title:  Parking and road conditions in the Dublin and Wicklow Mountains
Date:  09/03/2018

A considerable amount of snow remains along roadsides throughout the Dublin and Wicklow Mountains, and Coillte has advised that many of their recreation sites and car parks remain closed. Coillte has asked that people are considerate of upland residents who require access to homes and farms, and requested people to avoid blocking their entrances or access roads.

Taking this and the suggestions below into account could help prevent traffic chaos over the weekend. Thanks to Ronan Mullen for the updates below which have been taken from the Wicklow Mountains Current Conditions Facebook page.

Update on Wicklow Mountains road conditions from Ronan Mullen,, Laragh

11pm Thursday 8th March

If you're planning on heading to the Wicklow Mountains this weekend here's a few things to consider - road access on the main roads is OK, the back roads are single lane with very few passing points. Parking is an issue as many parking areas are still covered in snow, car pool or better still park low and hire a minibus/Hackney (they need the business)  to drop /collect at a higher point. You will be walking in snow so expect this to be slower going and colder with difficult navigation. Our warning, from last weekend, regarding cornice collapse and avalanches is still valid - stay away from edges and slopes that face west to north. Take care.

5pm Friday 9th March

Laragh/Glendalough car parks update: Upper Lake car park- due to be ploughed today (Friday), road access is good - expect this to get very busy. Visitors Centre car park - not open yet - awaiting to be ploughed. Trooperstown - still has snow, you'll get in in a car but you won't get out! There's limited space at the start of the car park. Please do not block access to the Mountain Rescue base. Behind the school in Laragh has been ploughed but reduced space - expect this to fill fast. Best advice is to get in early. Don't forget to shop local- McCoys for food, the hotels, B&Bs, Wicklow Heather, Glendalough Green all need your business. And of course the shop will be open!!
