Strong performance from Youth climbers in France

18 April 2012
Neal McQuaid, Talent Development Officer, was down to support a youth training trip to France (Fontainebleau for one week, and sports climbing in southern France for one week) with National Coach, Eddie Cooper, Terry O'Connor (coach with Winders Climbing Club, Dublin) and Rob Hunter.

A full write-up of week can be found on his own blog here.

The highlights of most significant achievments (and apologies if I've missed any, too many amazing things were done to remember them all - email me at neal@mountaineering.ie if I have):

Eoin Acton and Dominic Burns got Carnage Sit (Font 7c) at Font, Eoin almost got Duel (8a) before a finger injury halted play, jamie and andrew almost got one of the 8a variations on the Carnage boulder, dominic almost got La Balance (7c+). Vicky Colligan climbed a brilliant 7a at Bas Cuvier area.

In southern France, Eoin climbed "La Reve du Papillon" (8a) at Buoux for his first 8a! amazing as it's such a classic hard route. Dominic was looking strong on "La Rose et La Vampire" (8b), and Jamie got a 7c+ at St. Leger. Vanessa Woods also climbed her first 7a outdoors, fantastic! One of the coaches, Terry, ticked his first 7b!!!!!!!
