Fair Head Meet 2012 - Report

MI's annual Fair Head Meet has just taken place last weekend. With a good forecast the meet seen its biggest attendance yet, over 150 people enjoy one of the best cliffs in the UK.

The years meet was particularly successful as there were a lot of visiting climbers over from the UK, Portugal, Belgium, Holland and Poland, turning it into a real international meet!

With the settled weather and warm temperatures of last week, the crag had been busy and with a strong crew over from Wales and Scotland most of the classics at all grades had chalk on them! A good trip report is available on

Sean the farmer as always did his utmost to accommodate the masses of climbers by supplying us with logs for the bonfire (and some diesel when paper doesn't work!), cleaning out the cow shed for Saturday evenings entertainment and pointing us in the direction of a good fry up on Sunday morning!

This years entertainment came in the form of Greg Boswell, young Scottish winter hotshot who gave us an insight into the world of hard mixed and ice climbing. Running it out with gear in icy cracks, pointy bits attached to your feet and hands, gale force winds and little day light...... Pretty hardcore!

This years meet also attracted a small bunch of highliners, who on the Sunday walked 150 ft between the Grey Man's, I think the ramblers, climbers and walkers found it very entertaining and lots of pictures were taken!

Well it seems like the word is now out on the Head and with quotes like "better jamming than Yosemite" and "thanks for a great weekend, we have already started to plan our next trip", next year should be bigger and even more successful!

A big thanks to Mountaineering Ireland and to Sean McBride, the farmer and eveyone else who made the weekend so successful!
