Mountaineering Ireland aims to deliver a talent development pathway to identify and support talented young climbers.
Talent Development Pathway
Many young climbers active with youth organisations such as Scouting, schools with climbing walls and climbing wall classes. For some of these climbers the lure of the sport will draw them on in pursuit of higher performances. For these young climbers Mountaineering Ireland Youth Climbing Clubs and Mountaineering Ireland Open Coaching provide the opportunity to develop their climbing skills.
Youth climbing competitions such as the Youth Climbing Series provide young climbers an excellent opportunity to test and showcase their skills. Other young climbers will demonstrate their potential by climbing to a high level on rock or indoors in a non-competitive setting.
When these young climbers with the potential to perform to a high level are identified they are invited to join the Mountaineering Ireland Talent Development Squad.
Talent Development Squad
The Talent Development Squad serves to provide selected young climbers with a high-performance training environment in which to develop their climbing ability.
The Talent Development Squad caters for young climbers from about eight to eighteen years of age.
