Competition Climbing

 
Mountaineering Ireland organises a wide range of climbing competitions which are suitable for young people. The competitions vary in style; bouldering to route climbing and competitiveness; from the relaxed Irish Leading League to the more competitive championships. What ever your age, level of ability or preferred climbing style there is a climbing competition there for you.

Youth Climbing League

The Youth Climbing League is organised on a provincial basis, with two rounds each taking place in Ulster, Leinster and Munster. The first round of the league features bouldering, the second round features routes.

The Youth Climbing League is an ideal opportunity for young climbers who would like to try competition for a first time. The level of difficulty of the climbs is set to make them achievable by the majority of the competitors. A big effort is made to make the atmosphere as friendly and encouraging as possible.

Youth Climbing Series

The Youth Climbing Series offers fun climbing competitions for young people. The competition is open to all young people. Whether you're new to climbing, or already have some experience, this could be just the competition for you. 
 
There are three rounds in Ireland, plus a Grand-Final for climbers from all over the UK and Ireland. 
 
There are five age categories, with separate girls and boys categories based on year of birth. The categories are called Youth A, B, C, D and E.

Lead Climbing League

The Irish Leading League is a lead-climbing competition for climbers of a wide range of abilities. Each round of the competition features ten routes; graded from about 5b to 8a. Every climber can attempt all of the routes. 
 
The Irish Leading League is a very sociable and fun competition. There is no lower age limit, but all competitors must be able to lead-climb competently.

Irish Bouldering League

The Irish Bouldering League is a fun, grassroots bouldering competition. The Irish Bouldering League is suitable for climbers of almost all abilities; from keen novice climbers to highly experienced climbers. The lower age limit for the Irish Bouldering League is fourteen years of age on the day of the competition.
 
The competition features twenty-five boulder problems per round. All competitors attempt all of the problems.

Irish Lead Climbing Championship

The Junior Irish Lead Climbing Championship is a one day lead climbing competition for young climbers between the ages eleven and nineteen.
 
The competition follows the format of international climbing competitions. The competition comprises two qualifying routes and a final route.

Irish Bouldering Climbing Championship

The Junior Irish Bouldering Championship is a one day bouldering competition for young climbers between the ages of eleven and nineteen.
 
The competition comprises of a qualifying round of eight boulder problems and a final round of three boulder problems.
